About Me
First sat on a trials bike at the age of 12 in 1957. Began riding in open to centre trials in 1961 on a BSA Bantam D1, quickly progressed to an AJS 16C. For a ten year period from 1967 to 1976 inclusive competed regularly in national trials including 5 successful (in terms of finishing!) attempts at the Scottish Six days. During that period I came north (I'm based in Essex) to compete in the Red Rose and Alan Trophy trials, but sadly, never the Travers! I also had a hand in running Chelmsford Auto Club trials, in one capacity or another, for 14 years. Took a few years off to get married and start a family and then returned to the fray on the pre-65 scene initially on a Tri-Greeves and finally a Villiers special. Packed up trials as such about ten years ago disillusioned where pre-65 is going with 'trick' bikes on the one hand and umpteen different routes on the other! In those ten years I've only competed in the Arbuthnot trial finishing on the winning team on three occasions and winning my class. My main motorcycling interest now lies with the VMCC - I'm Essex section chairman - and again I'm gaining great pleasure in taking part in events up and down the country, this time with the excellent VMCC, including coming to Weardale for the Beamish! |
